As established by the social media policy of the Society for Creative Anachronism, online behaviour is expected to remain in line with the SCA code of conduct. Online spaces are no different to offline ones, and the standards of behaviour we expect at a committee meeting should be maintained in our online spaces. In recent months, this has not been the case in the Barony of Innilgard(BoI).
As such, breaches of the SCA code of conduct online in the BoI and sub branch channels(such as branch managed Discord servers, fb Groups and any other social media related channels used for local official SCA business) will be subject to a warning. Further breaches will incur a 1 month ban from all BoI channels(excepting email, in-person and the website). Subsequent breaches will incur a linear increase of 3 months (eg:4 months after the 1 month ban, 7 months after the 4 month ban etc) unless more extreme penalties are deemed necessary by Kingdom level or above SCA officers.
For the purposes of this policy, the Barony of Innilgards Social Media Officer is now responsible for:
– investigating all complaints made in the Barony regarding memberships conduct on Official Social Media channels
– interpreting the Code of Conduct for the purposes of assessing breaches in relation to these complaints
Breaches must be reported to The Barony Social Media Officer, who will seek consultation from the Barony Seneschal where appropriate. Appeals must be made directly to the Barony Seneschal before proceeding to Kingdom level or above officers. Local Barony and College officers are required to forward any complaints to the Barony Social Media Officer while this policy is in effect.
This policy will remain in effect for 6 months from June the 21st, 2026 before it will be assessed for validity (based on populace adoption of the established norms for their online behaviour).
The purpose of this policy is to clarify the process for complaints regarding breaches of the code and the consequences from these breaches. It is not to imply a change to it.

This will only apply to SCA specific discussions. Messages in contention should be clearly bookended by official business and supplied with a full written explanation of the context surrounding the messages and their acquisition.
