Sunday 22nd of March
This month, the 22nd of March at the Gums reserve, Tranmere will be the Baronial Rapier Championship!
Setup will be from 9 AM, the event will start from 10 AM with the intention of starting court at 10:30 AM and then immediately beginning the tournament.
The event will run until the tournament is concluded, which we anticipate being 4PM.
We encourage fighters and spectators to bring food and drinks to enjoy during the tourney so as to not exhaust yourselves.
There is no cost for attendance at this event for SCA Members, with a $10 non-members fee for adults, and $5 for minors.
Like previous years, the championship will be a matched weapons tournament, with weapons determined by the round. Three losses will retire you from the field. Fighters may choose to enter with or without contesting, however finals will only be open to fighters choosing to contest the championship.
As the championship is intended to be a recognition of all fighting excellence in the Barony, recognition will be will be given out for:
Best intermediate fighter, Best beginner fighter and Best on field appearance, in addition to the winner of the tourney.
Additionally, to celebrate our Heraldic display, and the excellence of Innilgardian crafts, two A&S competitions will be run. The themes are:
Heraldry – Come, document and display your colours, anything that displays or evokes your heraldry or the heraldry of the groups around you.
Fighting garb: Show off your fanciest gear, and what you’ve been working on!
To anyone who may be camera shy: Please be aware that championship fights are commonly recorded for fighters to replay privately for the sake of reviewing and learning. Please be aware that video recording of the fights, and subsequently some of the audience is expected, and likely to be present.
Therefore I bid you, come celebrate the excellence of our Barony, it’s fighting arts, and community, and witness the selection of our new champion.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me or the Seneschal.
Yours in service.
~Kit Hackforth.
