Master Haos Windchaser and Mistress Bryony Beehyrd

Master Haos Windchaser and Mistress Bryony Beehyrd

We would like to nominate for the position of Baron and Baroness of Innilgard, and if we are appointed, will strive to fulfil the expectations of the Barony and the Crown. We regard the position of Baron and Baroness as one of the most important jobs in the Kingdom, and the Society.

Real Life Experience

We have a long-term stable marriage, of 34 years. Our 4 children have grown up in Innilgard, and one of them, (Lady Trica Ludwig), still plays in the SCA here. Haos has recently retired from the workforce, and Bryony’s book selling business is in the process of being wound down, so we have the leisure to give time to the Barony. Our joint interests beside the SCA are History, Books, Dungeons and Dragons, and Board Games.

Haos started his career as a Systems Analyst, and has had decades of managing teams and producing results to a deadline.

Bryony had a career as a Geologist, before becoming a fulltime mother. Subsequently, she has worked and volunteered in small community groups and organizations, often on the Committees, and often in a financial position.

SCA Experience

Bryony was involved in the early days of Outremer, the original name of the Rowany group. On moving to Adelaide with work, she, and a group of like-minded local people including Haos, founded the Shire of Innilgard in 1982. We have been continual members since 1982, 37 years.

We both have had an extensive involvement with Innilgard over the years, with some slowdowns during the children years. We have served in many offices in the Shire and Barony, as well as holding Principality and SCA Australia offices.

Haos has been majorly involved in the heavy combat, archery, and rapier side of the SCA, as well as developing his interests in garb, calligraphy, heraldry, cookery, and service.

Bryony was involved in heavy and light combat in the group before children, but not much since. Involvement has been mostly in the organizational and gentler arts, and she has spent many years in the Scribal Guild. Any of the textile fibre crafts are of especial interest, and she enjoys putting things in order.

We have been a part of Innilgard since its very beginning. It is a group which is very dear to our hearts, as we have watched it grow over the decades. Innilgard has had so many wonderful Barons and Baronesses, that we are hesitant to nominate ourselves as successors to such a glorious tradition. The position of Baron and Baroness is a vital one in the Society. We have had the whirlwind experience of ceremonial leadership in the office of Prince and Princess, twenty-nine years ago. That experience, while intense, is like a short distance sprint. In contrast, the Baronial couple are the long-distance runners, and should bring long term stability to their barony, overlapping the short terms of the Officers.

We believe we can work with whatever Officers Innilgard produces from its ranks. We recognise that the Officers run the Barony, and see our role as one of supporting them and the populace and as liaison between the Barony and Royalty.

Haos has recently retired from the workforce, and Bryony’s book selling business is in the process of being wound down, so we have the leisure to give time to the Barony. With no more children left at home, we have the room to accommodate visitors and Royalty. We have the leisure, and enough means that some travel to other groups is doable.

We are not a part of a household in Innilgard, nor members of any particular subgroup, so favouritism, either real or apparent, is not such a risk. There are subgroups/special interest groups in the Barony about which we have hitherto had little knowledge. One of our aims as B&B would be to get to know all these different groups, and find out how they fit into the texture of the group.

We believe that Innilgard is in quite a good place currently. We have been very fortunate in our current and past Barons and Baronesses. Our aim is to encourage Innilgard to keep up the high standards for fighting, feasting, fun and friendliness for which it is known Lochac-wide. Innilgard’s skilled artisans are awesome, and we hope to encourage more people to enjoy the pleasures of making things.

We recognize that new people bringing new ideas are vital for the health and growth of a group, and would like to encourage the retention of people trying out our group. We would also like to reach out to older members who may have fallen away over the years, and encourage them to come back, bringing their familiarity with our traditions and history, and giving the Barony the depth of experience, which is so satisfying for the atmosphere of a group. Innilgard, and any SCA group, cannot help but prosper if it has a broad range of ages, experiences, and life stages among its members.

The list of “Positions Held” and “Awards” give an indication of the experience we have to offer the position from the range of interests and length of service.
